For some, a move is going to have a fixed, immovable date because of job requirements or other commitments. For others, however, there may be a bit more flexibility as to when the move can occur. If you can actually pick a date when you’d like to move, when’s the best time? Many say summer because of the weather, but there’s another alternative. A holiday move.
The Time & Price Are Right
Summer is the busiest period for a Cross Country Moving Company, so scheduling is going to be a challenge, and it’s a “seller’s market,” so you’ll have to accept whatever cost is presented to you if want the services of a good, busy company.
However, from the months of November to January, things slow down for many moving companies, and there’s much more flexibility in terms of schedule and even cost. Long distance movers can’t be so picky at this time of year, and giving you a better price is much more preferable to not seeing any business at all.
School Adjustments May Be Easier
Conventional wisdom says that the best time to start a child off in school is at the start of a new school year. But coming into the middle of a school year isn’t as disruptive as some may imagine. This is especially true for teachers, who have now settled in for a few months with a class, with a curriculum that is well underway.
It means that because things are routine, they can spend more time with children to help them transition into the new school. Depending on the child, transitioning may also be easier once things have settled down at a school and things are already underway to jump into and get involved with.
Easier Transport With A Cross Country Moving Company
Except for specific holiday periods like Christmas, traffic closer to the end of the year is also not as bad as it may be during summer. Barring weather, this can generally make for a faster, smoother move for everyone involved, including your long distance movers.
Much of this also depends on where you’re going. So moving from New York to Arizona may actually see an improvement both in weather and driving conditions the closer you get to your final destination. Conversely, a move from Florida to Washington state might provide some challenge, depending on how the weather decides to behave.
Summer may be the most popular time to move, but it’s not necessarily the best time. Think about moving another period in the year if you can.
