If you are moving and have been wondering how to pack & move fragile possessions there are a few good tips to follow. No one wants to chip, crack, or break their delicate possessions or antiques that have been kept in their family for many years. These items can be anything from glassware to furniture in addition to many other items that are fragile. These are the types of items that must be carefully wrapped and moved with care to keep them from being damaged. When getting ready to move fragile items in your home you can easily do this job by yourself by following a few steps:

  1. The first thing you can do is to find the appropriate amount of boxes, bubble wrap, and newspapers that you will need to wrap and box up your fragile possessions. These items can be easily found at a packing and shipping center, department stores, or you may know someone who has packing materials that they are not using. Often you will find many of these items in your home that you can use for packing and moving. The internet is also a good place to look for packing materials.
  2. If you are moving furniture, you can protect items by surrounding them with blankets, tarps and other types of covers that will help protect your valuable furniture from being scratched up. When moving furniture by yourself, you will need to move the furniture slowly so that you do not bump against doorways and damage the furniture. You can move heavy furniture by pushing one side at a time moving it slowly. You can also move furniture by putting a rug under it and pulling the rug moving the furniture to where it needs to go. This is all a slow way to move it by yourself, but it can be done. When you are ready to load your furniture to take to your new residence you may need help loading it onto a truck if you cannot handle it on your own.
  3. For smaller items such as glassware and other breakable items that are fragile, you will need to wrap these items carefully in bubble wrap and newspaper and then pack tightly in a box so that the items will not roll around in the box bumping against each other. You can use as much wrapping as needed to protect your items. To keep the boxes from tipping or falling over during shipment from one location to another you will need to make sure they are placed tightly together. Remember to tape the tops of your boxes so that they stay sealed until they get to their destination.

Moving can be a tedious job especially if you have many items that are fragile and in need of being wrapped before moving. If you can afford it, you can hire a professional moving company to do the work for you. There are many moving companies that will come to your home and professionally wrap and move all of your fragile items so that they get to their destination safely. This will take the worry away from wrapping and packing your items by yourself during this busy time of your life. A moving company is the best way to go unless it is just not in your budget and then moving yourself is the next best thing.

Good tips for sure, I was worried about using a moving company to move my collection of antique vases and dinnerware, but I had the moving company I chose pack those possessions for me and took out extra insurance on them. I made a special point of marking the boxes as fragile and talked to the movers multiple times to be extra careful with the boxes I marked as important, and everything turned out great!
